Women Run to First Place at Bassett Creek
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- North Central started off their 2012 women's cross country season in great fashion by winning the Bassett Creek Early Bird Triangular on Friday afternoon. Freshman Annalise Schroeder was the individual winner over the 5k Bassett Creek Park course to lead a cast of positive performances for the young Rams team.
North Central won the team scoring with 29 points just 4 points ahead of second place Northwestern College (St. Paul, Minn.). Crown College was third with 70 points.
Annalise Schroeder (New London, Wis./New London) led the field for almost the entire race before earning a nine second victory over the second place runner from Northwestern. Freshman Jacie Jawaski (Breckenridge, Minn./Breckenridge) was third overall and senior Meghan Smith (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls) took home sixth place.
Sophomore Amanda Schexneider (Elisabethtown, Ky./Elisabethtown) and senior Bethany Bostron (Spicer, Minn./Bostron Academy) rounded out the Rams top five with 9th and 10th place finishes respectively.
North Central will be off from competition until Friday, September 21 when they travel to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational. The race begins at 4 p.m. at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wisconsin.
This Friday the Rams will have their annual Alumni Run at the home of Greg Hayton in Osceola, Wisconsin. Hayton is the founder of Rams Cross Country and was the Director of Athletics at NCU for over 10 years. The Alumni Run begins at 5 p.m.
