MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- Volleyball made the trip to the southern end of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference map for their final matches of the season. Friday the Rams lost 3-0 to Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato before falling 3-0 to Martin Luther College on Saturday afternoon.
North Central jumped out to a 14-11 lead in the first set on Friday at Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn.) but a 12-0 run gave the Vikings a 23-14 lead that carried them to a 25-17 1st set win. BLC got ahead early in the final two sets and earned a 3-0 sweep via 25-14 and 25-12 set victories. Freshman Ashley Kelzer (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) led NCU with 8 kills while sophomore Elissa Pheneger (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) added 17 assists and equaled a team high 13 digs. Sophomore Karlee Huber (Rapid City, S.D./Dakota Wesleyan Univ.) put down 5 kills and added 13 digs.
Saturday put the Rams up against Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minn.). North Central's offense struggled (.013 K%) and the Knights took a 3-0 sweep via 25-10, 25-12 and 25-12 score lines. Karlee Huber posted 9 of the Rams 18 kills while Ashley Kelzer posted another 6 kills. Elissa Pheneger recorded 16 assists and four digs on the day.
North Central finished up their season 7-21 overall, a one game improvement over 2013. The Rams have no seniors in 2014 and should return the majority of their roster next season.
