Goodman's Tally Lifts Rams over Providence

FARGO, N.D.-- North Central University Women's Soccer earned a hard fought 1-0 victory over Providence College on Friday afternoon in a match played on a neutral field in Fargo, North Dakota. The Rams and Freemen played their key NCCAA Division II regional match-up at the Pepsi Soccer Complex in Fargo.

NCU and Providence were engaged in a 0-0 tie after the first 45 mintues despite the teams combining for 23 shots with the Freemen earning a 15-8 advantage.

North Central would even things out in the second half and senior forward Christina Goodman (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) notched her second goal of the season in the 63rd minute to give NCU the lead. The goal came on a break by the Rams and was put in motion on a long lob into the box by sophmore midfielder Jen Sargent (Milwaukee, Wis./Heritage Christian) that hit off retreating defender's back and was fired home by Goodman. The helper was the second assist of the year for Sargent.

The victory gives the Rams a berth in the 2012 NCCAA Division II regional final on October 24. NCU will face the winner of a semi final between Providence College and Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, Iowa).
