MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - The North Central University Women's basketball team picked up a non-conference victory against Mount Mary University (2-9) by a score of 58-46. NCU (4-9) shot 32.9 percent from the field (23-for-70) en route to a twelve point victory on the road in Milwaukee.
The Rams led in every quarter of the game, while they jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter by starting the game with a 6-2 run after a layup from Ellee Laws. Mount Mary would battle back to make it 8-7 late in the first quarter before the Rams went on an 8-0 run to end the first quarter with a 16-9 advantage.
At the half the Rams led 28-20 after a strong second quarter showing from Allison Bulthuis with seven points coming off the bench for the Rams. The Rams would continue to pull away as Lizzy Swanson added nine points in the third quarter and nine points in the fourth quarter to help extend the lead to double digits.
Swanson led the way for the Rams as she scored 26 points going 10-for-20 from the field on the night. Swanson also added nine rebounds to go along with two assists. Haleigh Filer added 10 points in support of Swanson as she shot 4-for-12 from the field while adding seven assists and seven steals. Bethany Shield added eight points to go along with seven from Bulthuis in a strong third quarter of play.
The Rams will look to take this momentum back into Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play on Wednesday as they travel to Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
