Strong Vikings Pitching Derails Rams

MINNEAPOLIS - Racing against Mother Nature, North Central University softball (0-30, 0-12 UMAC) hosted the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings (14-22, 8-8 UMAC) in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. Vikings pitcher, Anna Pipenhagen, had her way with the Rams offense and paving the way for a scoreline of 9-0 and 8-0 in the two road wins. Pipenhagen recorded a no-hitter in game one and added 16 strikeouts.

How It Happened

Game 1: The Vikings jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before the Rams retired the side. Pipenhagen then went to work on the Rams batters striking out 16 of the 18 at bats for the Rams on the day. Bethany talled three runs in the second inning before going scoreless from strong Rams defense in the third inning. The Vikings tallied another three runs in the fourth inning before the Rams held Bethany scoreless in the fifth. Unable to fight back on Pipenhagen's impressive pitching, the Rams fell 9-0 to Bethany after six innings of play.

Game 2: After a full game, the Rams were able to adjust and get the offense going. The game was tied at 0-0 through two innings before Bethany went up four runs in the third. Bethany Lutheran scored once in the fourth and three runs in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 8-0 after five innings, just in time to avoid the rain. Both Amanda Roth (Appleton, Wis./Neenah) and Nora Sullivan (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) were able to get hits for the Rams.

up Next: The Rams final two contests are scheduled for this weekend in Wisconsin. On Friday afternoon the Rams will face the Northland College Lumberjills in a rescheduled game from last week. Then on Saturday the Rams will face UW-Superior Yellowjackets. Both events are doubleheaders.
