Rams Get "Hits, Hits, Hits" In Loss To Morris

MINNEAPOLIS - North Central softball (0-28, 0-10 UMAC) hosted both the University of Minnesota-Morris (8-26, 3-9 UMAC) and parents of North Central student-athletes on Saturday afternoon under warm and sunny skies. The Rams dropped both Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) games 10-1 and 13-5 before celebrating Parent's Day on campus. Amanda Roth (Appleton, Wis./Neenah) was 6-for-7 from the plate scoring three runs and tallied two doubles on the day.

How It Happened

Game 1: The Cougars offense came out hitting tallying seven runs in the first inning and jumping out to the quick lead. The Rams countered with two hits but left both runners on the bases. In the second, the Rams defense stepped up to get the final and third out before the Cougars could begin sending runners home. Morris led 8-0 at the top of the third. Back-to-back doubles in the third inning allowed Morris to score two more and led 10-0 after three. Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth inning. The bottom of the fifth Amanda Roth hit her second double of the game and made it home with help from teammate Brooke Rayfield (Winona, Minn./Riverway Learning). Abbey Erzbeger (Milwaukee, Wis./Hertitage Christian) went 2-for-2 from the plate and was walked once.

Game 2: In the second team both teams started the game grabbing two runs. Morris scored four runs in the top of the fourth and never gave up the lead again. Scoring one run apiece in the third and fourth inning the Cougars led 8-2 through five innings. In the top of the sixth Morris scored an additional five runs. However, the Rams offense couldn't spark enough offense to come back in the bottom of the sixth despite scoring three runs before the final out. The Rams were not without hits though with eight hits in game two but couldn't hit the runners left on base home. Alex Rodriguez (Minneapolis, Minn./Homeschooled) had two hits and two runs for North Central in game two.

Up Next: The Rams will host Bethany Lutheran (doubleheader) on Tuesday April 25 beginning at 3:30 p.m. at East Phillips Park. North Central will then travel north for a rescheduled doubleheader with the Lumberjills of Northland on Friday April 28 at 3:30 p.m. and a doubleheader with UW-Superior on Saturday April 29 beginning at 1 p.m.
