MINNEAPOLIS - North Central Men's Soccer (1-2, 0-1 UMAC) dropped the first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match of the season, 6-1, to the College of St. Scholastica Saints (3-2, 1-0 UMAC) on Wednesday afternoon in Elliot Park. The Rams and Saints were tied going 1-1 going into halftime before the Saints found five unanswered goals in the second half. Kaleb Smith (Kijabe, Kenya/Rift Valley Academy) led the Rams offense with two shots and a constant threat to the Saints defense. Gabe Hartwig (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) owned the Rams net with seven saves on the day.
St. Scholastica opened the scoring on the day in the 14th minute when Alex Dodd slotted a ball into the bottom left corner just past Hartwig. The Rams offense retaliated when Noah Ramsby (Detroit, Mich./Parkway Christian) earned a penalty kick after being tripped in the box. Sophmore Josué Boutouli (Lome, Togo/Eagan) stepped up and converted from the spot tying the game 1-1 in the 37th minute. However, in the second half the Saint found their groove breaking down the Rams defense scoring five goals in twenty minutes. St. Scholastica outshot the Rams 18-4 and had two more corner kicks than the Rams, 5-3.
