MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- North Central Baseball was swept at the hands of St. Olaf College in a double header played at HHH Metrodome on Thursday night. The Rams managed just eight hits in 14 innings while committing 4 errors. St Olaf claimed 13-1 victories in the pair of games.
North Central (0-5, 0-0) was the victim of two big innings in game one as St. Olaf College (Northfield, Minn.) posted five runs in the second and seven runs in the sixth. The Rams were only able to get one run back in the seventh and the Oles earned a 13-1 victory.
The Rams got their only run when sophomore Gary Ramos (Chicago, Ill./Foreman) fired a lead off double and advanced to third when senior Ian Andrews (Coon Rapids, Minn.) followed up with a single. Freshman William Rosevear (Canton, Mich.) then reached on an error that allowed Ramos to score and moved Andrews to second. But the next three batters went down in order and that ended game one. Senior Devin Lehnhoff (Ellendale, N.D./Ellendale) would take the loss on the mound for NCU and fall to 0-2 on the year.
Game two saw NCU jump out to a 2-0 in their part of the first. Senior Ben Freitag (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) led off the inning by reaching on an error. Freshman Cody Van Sickle (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) then singled to move Freitag to second. The next two NCU batters were retired but William Rosevear came up with a two-out triple to drive in Freitag and Rosevear. NCU would hold a 2-1 lead after three innings but four St. Olaf runs in the top of the fourth gave the Oles a lead they would hold the rest of the way in an eventual 9-2 outcome. Cody Van Sickle would take the game two loss on the mound for NCU to fall to 0-2 on the season.
The Rams will be back in action on Monday when they take on Macalester College (St. Paul, Minn.) at the Metrodome. The Rams and Scots are set for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch in a scheduled double-header.
