NCU Athletes Recognized as Academic All-UMAC; Men's Cross Country Earns High Marks

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- North Central University Athletics is pleased to announce that 15 fall sports athletes have been recognized as Academic All-Conference by the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). Men's Cross Country was also recognized has having the highest team GPA among all schools sponsoring the sport.

 

North Central is an associate member in the UMAC which allows Men's & Women's Cross Country and Men's Golf to participate in their respective sports' championships. All three sports were represented on the list of 355 varsity athletes competing for 13 institutions in 8 sports. 

 

Ram's Men's Cross Country earned a team GPA of 3.658 which was the best among the seven schools sponsoring the sport. That outstanding level of acheivement was the best among any male falls sports team in the UMAC and was second only to the Crown College Women's Cross Country team among all sports. Individually, seven of the nine athletes on the fall roster were named to the individual academic all-conference list. Senior Daniel Bare, junior Jesse Richards, sophomores Owen Hein, Tony Johns, Jeff Winkelman, and freshmen Nick Jordan and Austin Muchow were each named to the list.

 

Women's Cross County was well represented on the list with four members. Juniors Catherine Mead, Betsy Silbernagel, and Sophomores Becca Armstrong and Erica Wenig were each named academic all-conference. 

 

Men's Golf also had four members on the list. Senior Andy Kalyvas, junior Jordan Herzog, sophomore Jon-Michael Sherman, and freshman Dan Johnson were each recognized.

 

Student athletes must earn a 3.5 GPA for the semester in which they compete to be recognized as Academic All-Conference for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
