Trickey, Kidd Lift Rams over Crown

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- Elisabeth Trickey scored 18 points and Melissa Kidd recorded her fifth double-double of the year to give North Central University Women's Basketball a 55-42 home win over Crown College in the CLC Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

North Central earned a strong victory but first had to overcome a sloppy start to the game to pull way from Crown College (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) after the visiting team led 14-13 at the 6:47 mark of the first half. A pair of free throws by junior guard Elisabeth Trickey (Waseca, Minn.) a few seconds later gave NCU just its fourth lead of the game but it would be an advantage the Rams would not relinquish on the way to a good home win.

The Rams would lead by as many as 12 points over the final 6 minutes of the first half and by as many as 26 at the 11:36 mark of the second stanza before Matt Callahan emptied the bench and began trying various line ups that featured several reserves and one or two starters. Crown was able to get some late momentum but North Central would hold on for a sloppy win in a game where the two teams combined for 73 turnovers.

Elisabeth Trickey was responsible for 7 steals and 18 Rams points while freshman forward Melissa Kidd (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) controlled the glass with 15 rebounds and 12 points. Despite a tough shooting night sophomore guard Jorie Grenell (Lakeville, Minn.) recorded 10 points to keep her double digit scoring streak alive. Grenell has notched double figures in every NCU game she's played in this season and the stretch of 16 games began last season at the 2011 NCCAA DII Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament when she scored 16 points verses Clearwater Christian College in an 76-67 NCU victory. Grenell also dished out a game high 6 assists to keep the Rams offense functioning.

The Rams go back to work for a few days before returning to action at home at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 21 for a match up with NCCAA DII North Central region opponent Providence College (Otterburne, Manitoba).
