MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- Friday afternoon North Central Fall Sports teams headed out to Camp Clearwaters for the annual Fall Sports Retreat. The overnight retreat is a kickoff to the season for Men's & Women's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Men's & Women's Soccer, and Women's Volleyball.
The teams left NCU on Saturday afternoon and traveled to Camp Cleawaters, located about five minutes from Somerset, Wisconsin and about an hour from the North Central Campus. The teams began the weekend by getting in a practice session for the first time during the 2010 year. After dinner the athletes were greeted by Vice President of Student Life, Mike Nosser.
Friday evening included a session led by Head Golf Coach Todd Monger. Monger is the Director of the NCU Student Success Center and he spoke on developing a well rounded approach to life and sports. After a time of worship music, Vice President of University Relations and Enrollment, Nate Ruch offered a devotional message to all the teams and coaches. Friday night wrapped up with free time for the teams to play card games and relax around a camp fire.
Saturday opened with the teams conducting conditioning practices before heading in for breakfast. Next, NCU Director of Athletics Jon High led a morning devotional session. High challenged each athlete and coach to take a few moments by themselves to consider the message before the teams each gathered back together. Each coach then offered their teams a vision for the season.
Fall Sports Retreat wrapped up with lunch before the teams headed back to Minneapolis to prepare for this week's preseason training camp schedule. Cross Country, Golf, Soccer, and Volleyball will be conducting two workouts each day from Monday, August 23 through Friday, August 27. NCU campus-wide welcome week begins on Saturday August 28 and each team will take the day off to participate in those events. Sunday teams will conduct tryouts and final rosters will be posted Monday morning.
